Batman Beyond: Batman Beyond (known as Batman of the Future in Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, India and also the Philippines, until its reruns) was the fourth television series produced in the DC Animated Universe continuity. It began airing on January 10, 1999 and ended its run on December 18, 2001. For decades, Bruce Wayne reigned as Gotham City’s crime fighting Dark Knight, Batman. Twenty years into the future, however, the reign has come to an end. As a new horde of outrageous outlaws…

Batman Beyond: Batman Beyond premiered on January 10, 1999. It told the story about a new and different Batman. It takes place far in the future, years after Batman appeared for the last time. Terry McGinnis rekindles the fire in Bruce Wayne’s bitter old heart, and takes up the role as the new Dark Knight – with the old one as his mentor. With a new ruler of Gotham City, Derek Powers, crime is at an all-time high. After Terry finds out Bruce’s secret and his father is killed, Terry becomes the new Batman. He has to juggle life being a superhero, and being a high school student. He’s a more high-tech Batman, with rocket boots and cloaks. He’s the Knight of Tomorrow.

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000): The young protégé of one of the world’s greatest superheroes has his first encounter with an old nemesis in this direct-to-video feature adapted from the popular animated series Batman Beyond. Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle) has taken over the crime-fighting responsibilities of Batman from aging Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy), but while Terry has learned a great deal from Wayne, he’s never heard the startling truth about Batman’s final encounter with his arch-enemy, The Joker (Mark Hamill). However, when The Joker returns to Gotham City as vicious as ever, Wayne decides that it’s time that the new Batman learned all there is to know about the green-faced terror before he can bring the city to its knees — especially after Bruce is attacked by his one-time rival. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker also features the voice talents of Melissa Joan Hart and Angie Harmon. Upon its initial release, the movie sparked some controversy among Batman Beyond fans because of last-minute edits that toned down the violence level.
